Can TRIAC replace SCR?
Yes. In opposite to an SCR the triac may be conductive in both directions. Besides this problem you may use a triac instead of an SCR.
How do you know if a TRIAC is defective?
Step by step Procedure to test the triac:
- Keep the digital multimeter into Ohmmeter mode.
- Using a junction diode determine which ohmmeter lead is positive and which is negative.
- Connect the positive lead of Ohmmeter to MT2 and the negative lead to MT1.
- Using a jumper lead connect the Gate of the Triac to MT2.
How many types of TRIAC are there?
Standard or four-quadrant (4Q) triacs can be triggered in all four modes. 4Q triacs must include additional protection components such as resistor-capacitor (RC) snubbers across the main terminals and an inductor that is in series with the device.
Can I replace a thyristor with a TRIAC?
You can replace a triac with an SCR if you put the SCR inside a full-bridge rectifier, so the SCR sees both half-cycles flowing the same way. The SCR is unidirectional device while TRIAC is bidirectional device. The SCR control DC power BUT eTRIAC control DC as well as AC power.
What is the symbol of triac?
TRIAC
| The circuit symbol for a TRIAC, where “A1” is Anode 1, “A2” is Anode 2, and “G” is Gate. Anode 1 and Anode 2 are normally termed Main Terminal 1 (MT1) and Main Terminal 2 (MT2) respectively | |

What is the function of freewheeling diode in rectifier circuit?
The main purpose of freewheeling or flyback diode is to free wheel the stored energy in inductor by providing a short circuit path. This is necessary else a sudden decay in circuit current will give rise to high voltage across the switch contacts and diode.
Can a TRIAC be replaced with a SCR?
The proposed replacement is 25x more sensitive with regard to trigger current in the relevant quadrants. Current rating is probably okay. Voltage rating is similar (and not very generous for 220V mains). The big problem is that one is a triac and the other is an SCR, so no the proposed part is not a suitable replacement!
What should I replace my TRIAC stack with?
You should replace it by a Z0107MA, a 1A, 600V, four quadrant triac in TO-92 package. It is a standard product you can find both from ST and NXP. Thanks for contributing an answer to Electrical Engineering Stack Exchange!
What kind of circuit is a TRIAC circuit?
RCA – MAC15A8 – Triac. 15Amp 600V. Designed primarily for full-wave ac control applications, such as solid-state relays, motor controls, heating controls and power supplies; or wherever full-wave silicon gate controlled solid-state devices are needed.
How does a TRIAC thyristor switch from blocking to conducting?
Triac type thyristors switch from a blocking to a conducting state for either polarity of applied anode voltage with positive or negative gate triggering. 600V 15Amp. Silicon bidirectional triode thyristors.
