What is EFT immunity test?
EFT testing is an immunity standard used to test how electrical and electronic equipment operate under interference. EFT testing involves several tests to check the compatibility of a device with fast transients such as power line transients and electrostatic discharge.
What is EMC and ESD?
ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. Every EMC compliant product has to be tested on ESD during its development. This means that EMC compliant products should withstand certain electrostatic discharges of e.g. 1kV, 15kV or more.
What is ESD immunity?
IEC 61000-4-2 is an international test standard that outlines electromagnetic immunity requirements for electronic equipment when exposed to electrostatic discharge (ESD) generated from a human body or metal objects.
Why ESD test is required?
A charged device model (CDM) test is used to define the ESD a device can withstand when the device itself has an electrostatic charge and discharges due to metal contact. This discharge type is the most common type of ESD in electronic devices and causes most of the ESD damages in their manufacturing.
Which is the minimum ESD sequence for EFT?
A series of 20 consecutive discharges, of 10 (+) and 10 (-) polarity with a 1 second intervals between pulses, constitutes the minimum ESD test sequence. This leads into your next failure for EFT. The EFT simulates everyday inductive switching with lower voltage and current levels.
Is the system immune to an eft failure?
Electrical Fast Transient (EFT) Immunity test is one basic test method defined by immunity standards listed under Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) directive. It is important, for the safe operation, the system is immune to EFT.
What to do when EFT test does not work?
Meanwhile, for the EFT test, the operation stopped when they applied the 2 kV, 100 kHz AC to the system. However, the PC did not restart, we can still use the PC and close the application and restart the system again. Same solution that I found from the net: use TVS.
Which is the first paper on system level ESD?
The first paper analyzes system level ESD testing, wherein a Round Robin test was conducted at three different locations to investigate ESD test repeatability. It allowed a correlation of parameters that describe the severity of an ESD generator with respect to failure levels observed in equipments under test (EUTs).
