Why do you use high Z mode on an oscilloscope?
In an effort to minimize the amount of circuit loading for a given application, the oscilloscope provides two input impedance configurations: High Z mode and the 50 Ohm mode. The High Z or 1 Megohm mode makes the oscilloscope’s input impedance very high so that negligible current is drawn from the circuit being tested.
What does high Z mode mean?
high impedance
Hi-Z (or High-Z or high impedance) refers to an output signal state in which the signal is not being driven. The signal is left open, so that another output pin (e.g. elsewhere on a bus) can drive the signal or the signal level can be determined by a passive device (typically, a pull-up resistor).
What is HI Z and low Z?
The real difference between high- and low-Z microphone cable types is the number of wires inside the cable. High-Z cables use two-conductor cables (positive and ground), and low-Z cables use three-conductor cables (positive, neutral and ground).

Why do you need an oscilloscope to measure voltage?
Voltage is the amount of electric potential between the two points in a circuit. Measuring the voltage with your cheap oscilloscope will provide basic information about the signal. Normally, the oscilloscope has fixed input range, but this can be easily increased or changed with the use of simple potential divider circuit.
Which is the maximum frequency an oscilloscope can measure?
The maximum frequency an oscilloscope can measure varies, but it is often in the 100s of MHz range. Duty cycle: This refers to the percentage of a period that a wave is either a positive or negative duty cycles. It is a ratio that indicates how long a signal is ‘on’ versus how long it is ‘off’ during each period.
When to enable AC coupling on an oscilloscope channel?
When you enable AC coupling on an oscilloscope channel, you’re switching in a high-pass filter on the channel’s input signal path. This filters out all the DC components.
How to measure differential signals using an oscilloscope?
To measure a differential signal, we have two options, one is using a differential probe and second is using a two channels oscilloscope. A differential probe is expensive but handles a better accuracy. Using two/four channels oscilloscope is the cheapest method which handles acceptable results.
