How to convert SPI to UART?
You cannot convert SPI directly to a UART protocol as the protocols are rather different. SPI is a synchronous protocol, using a clock to transfer data. UART is, as the name implies, an asynchronous protocol without clock signal. You can, however, use SPI to control a SPI based UART chip, e.g. one like this.
Can I use SPI as UART?
Note: It is possible to receive and transmit more or less than the described 8 bits data + 1 parity bit while using the ST626x SPI as a UART. The number of bits per burst is largely up to the user. The SPI peripheral is a synchronous serial interface with programmable receiver and trans- mitter modes.
Can a max3140 be used as a UART?
The UART and RS-485/RS-422 functions can be used together or independently since the two functions share only supply and ground connections (the MAX3140 is hardware- and software-compatible with the MAX3100 and MAX3089). Search our knowledge base for answers to your technical questions.
What kind of FIFO does a UART use?
The UART features an 8-word-deep receive FIFO that minimizes processor overhead and provides a flexible interrupt with four maskable sources, including address recognition on 9-bit networks. Two control lines are included for hardware handshaking-one input and one output.
Is the max3140 SPI compatible with the max3089?
The UART and RS-485/RS-422 functions can be used together or independently since the two functions share only supply and ground connections (the MAX3140 is hardware- and software-compatible with the MAX3100 and MAX3089). What can be done with the max3107 SPI / I²C?
Automatic hardware and software flow control with selectable FIFO interrupt triggering offloads low-level activity from the host controller. Automatic half-duplex transceiver control with programmable setup and hold times allow the MAX3107 to be used in high-speed applications, for example Profibus-DP.
