What are PCIe switches?
A PCI Express switch is a device that allows expansion of PCI Express hierarchy. A switch device comprises one switch upstream, one or more switch downstream ports, and switching logic that routes TLPs between the ports.

PCI Express is a serial connection that operates more like a network than a bus. Instead of one bus that handles data from multiple sources, PCIe has a switch that controls several point-to-point serial connections. These connections fan out from the switch, leading directly to the devices where the data needs to go.

What is the difference between PCIe switch and bridge?
In a PCIe system, the host bridge is replaced by the upstream port of a four-port fan-out switch, and the downstream ports all appear to the host OS as PCI-to-PCI bridges. The operation is the same as with an NT bridge, only now the function is performed as a configuration option for one port of the switch.
