Why is the current minimum at resonance frequency in RLC parallel circuit?
Resonance occurs in a parallel RLC circuit when the total circuit current is “in-phase” with the supply voltage as the two reactive components cancel each other out. Also at resonance the current drawn from the supply is also at its minimum and is determined by the value of the parallel resistance.
Why in a series RLC circuit at resonance the current is in phase with the applied voltage?
Voltage across inductor and capacitor cancels each other, so voltage across resistor Vr = V, supply voltage. Since net reactance is zero, circuit becomes purely resistive circuit and hence the voltage and the current are in same phase, so the phase angle between them is zero.
Why parallel resonance is called Rejector circuit?
A parallel resonant circuit has at its heart an inductor and a capacitor. Because at resonance frequency in LCR parallel circuit, impedance is high, So it minimize the current. thus we say its a rejector circuit .
Is the resonance condition the same in parallel RLC circuit?
The above resonance condition is same as that of series RLC circuit. So, the resonant frequency, fr will be same in both series RLC circuit and parallel RLC circuit. L is the inductance of an inductor. C is the capacitance of a capacitor.
How is the power absorbed by a series RLC circuit determined?
If the series RLC circuit is driven by a variable frequency at a constant voltage, then the magnitude of the current, I is proportional to the impedance, Z, therefore at resonance the power absorbed by the circuit must be at its maximum value as P = I2Z.
What is the difference between parallel and series resonance?
Resonance is generally divided into series resonance and parallel resonance. As the name implies, series resonance is the resonance that occurs in a series circuit. Parallel resonance is the resonance that occurs in a parallel circuit.
Why are series resonance circuits called voltage resonance circuits?
Then in a series resonance circuit as VL = -VC the resulting reactive voltages are zero and all the supply voltage is dropped across the resistor. Therefore, VR = Vsupply and it is for this reason that series resonance circuits are known as voltage resonance circuits, (as opposed to parallel resonance circuits which are current resonance circuits).
