What is PCB Panelization?
PCB panelization is a manufacturing technique in which smaller boards are manufactured en-masse connected together as a single array, making it easier to move through an assembly line. Alternatively a PCB processing edge around an individual board to increase its width to fit on the assembly line.
Can you touch a PCB?
A. If the bare-hands touch the printed circuit board directly, it will result in oxidization of copper. Touching the PCB after solder mask until package with bare hands will cause unclean surface of boards and poor soldering.
What is the best way to cut PCB?
A Guillotine is the easiest. You could also use a hacksaw or a Dremel with cutting disc to cut it. ( I use the Dremel route for my boards and it works fine). Just give it a bit of sandpapering afterwards for a nice straight smooth line (provided you can cut straight with the dremel).
How do you Depanelize a PCB?
Several different methods are used to depanel PCB arrays:
- Breaking by Hand – Only appropriate for strain-resistant circuits.
- Pizza Cutter – Used on V-grooves.
- Punching – A two-part fixture punches out single PCBs.
- Depaneling Router – Single boards are connected using tabs; the router bit mills out the tabs.
How do you handle a PCB board?
You should minimize direct handling (meaning hands-on contact) with PCBs, opting to transport them on racks and tray carts whenever possible. If you do need to hold them directly, do so gently by their edges and wear clean gloves (and change them often).
Can a V groove cut be used on a PCB?
The V-groove cuts must also extend from one edge of the board to the other. V-groove panelization cannot be used if there are parts overhanging the edge of the board, because the saw could hit these overhanging parts which would obviously be a bad thing.
What’s the best way to mark out a PCB?
Place your different designs all inside one overall board outline and use lines drawn in the silk layer to mark out the separate the PCBs. Then, when you receive the PCB, carefully cut them apart yourself (we recommend you do this before you assemble the PCBs!).
What’s the best way to panelize a PCB?
V-Score Panelization: This common method of panelization separates individual PCBs with V-shaped grooves. These grooves remove approximately a third of the board’s thickness from the top and bottom of the board with an angled blade.
Why are the tabs on a PCB perforated?
Most of the time, the tabs on tab-routed panels are perforated with a series of holes to make it easier to separate the boards. Of course, after your PCBs are manufactured in a panel and assembled with all your electrical components, they need to be broken apart into individual PCBs.
