How are solar panels connected to batteries?
To wire batteries or solar panels in parallel connection, we connect all the negative terminals together. And we also connect all the positive terminals together. Kind of like the horses on the right, head to head, tail to tail, all standing parallel to each other.

The short answer is, in most cases, depending on the size of the battery, it will take around 5 – 8 hours to fully charge a 12-volt car battery with a solar panel that can produce 1 amp of current. Your panel is fine. A solar panel is roughly a current source over most of its characteristic, not a voltage source. So, the voltage you see across it depends on the impedance of the load that is connected (or the voltage of the battery that is connected); it isn’t set by the solar panel.

The MPPT will only begin charging when there is sufficient solar radiation to cause the PV panel voltage to rise 5V above the Battery voltage. After that condition has been met it will continue charging as long as the PV voltage remains at least 1V higher than the Battery voltage (or until the battery is full).

Consider that during the bulk charge stage, most controllers are essentially doing just that – attaching the panel directly to the battery. Once the battery terminal voltage rises to a preset value (or somewhat near it), pwm voltage control kicks in (be it inexpensive pwm or mppt controllers) during the absorb stage.
