How do LED lights change color?
LEDs produce different colors by using various materials which produce photons at different wavelengths. Those individual wavelengths appear as light of different colors. LEDs use materials that can handle the necessary levels of electricity, heat, and humidity.
Can you put LED bulbs in any light?
LEDs can be used in any light fixture, as long as it’s not enclosed or air-tight, and is not an old-style dimmer system. Both these will shorten the lifespan of LED bulbs.
Can I use an LED light bulb in a regular socket?
As long as the mounting base (socket) is the same size and type, you can use an LED bulb in an existing fixture. If the mounting base isn’t the same size and type, the LED bulb will not fit the socket. You should never use a bulb with a higher wattage than what is recommended for the fixture.
Do LED bulbs work with touch lamps?
Lighting consultant Terry McGowan said that if a touch lamp has a mechanical switch, it will work with any CFL or LED bulb. However, if the lamp has an electronic switch, you’ll need to use a CFL or LED bulb that’s specially marked as dimmable.
How does a LED bulb work on an AC?
In most applications LEDs are driven by a DC power supply. LEDs consume DC current to produce light; with AC current the LED will only be lit when current flow is in the proper direction. AC applied to an LED will cause it to blink on and off , and at high frequency the LED will appear to be lit continuously.

An LED bulb produces light by passing the electric current through a semiconducting material-the diode-which then emits photons (light) through the principle of electroluminescence. Don’t let that big word scare you!
How do dimmable LED work?
The LED creates a dimming effect through either pulse width modulation (PWM) or analogue dimming. PWM is a digital signal whereby the LED is either on or off and the lower you set the dimmer, the less the signal is on, and vice versa. The human eye then assimilates the average amount of light from this ‘pulsing’ effect.
