How many types of motor connections are there?
Operating principles. The two main types of AC motors are induction motors and synchronous motors. The induction motor (or asynchronous motor) always relies on a small difference in speed between the stator rotating magnetic field and the rotor shaft speed called slip to induce rotor current in the rotor AC winding.
How are Motors wired?
Large AC motors (used in things like factory machines) work in a slightly different way: they pass alternating current through opposing pairs of magnets to create a rotating magnetic field, which “induces” (creates) a magnetic field in the motor’s rotor, causing it to spin around.

A conductor coil (a copper coil tightly wound onto a metal core) is rotated rapidly between the poles of a horseshoe type magnet. The magnetic field will interfere with the electrons in the conductor to induce a flow of electric current inside it.
