Can a TV electrocute you?
TV internals can hold a charge long after they’re disconnected from mains. You won’t electrocute yourself if you follow the one-hand rule, but when the shock makes your arm jerk violently into a sharp piece of metal don’t ask me to clean it up. capacitors do not discharge when the power is off.

This is most undesirable, as the arc can damage the switch contacts, causing pitting and burning, eventually destroying them, and can cause fires. Reverse polarity and the surge in voltage across the switch contacts is exactly what the flyback diode addresses.
What should I use for a flyback transformer?
A thermal pad or paste/grease is recommended for better thermal transfer between the transistor and heatsink. The cheapest and nastiest stuff you can find on ebay is adequate for this, you could even salvage enough from old LED light bulbs or the TV you took the flyback from!
