What is inlet flow rate?
The gas inlet flow rate, FG, is also the flow rate of the gas phase in the PFR section. The inlet concentrations in the liquid phase (X, S, O) and the gas phase (gO) to the PFR section are (see Fig. 1)
What is the difference in pressure between inlet and outlet?
Since liquids are incompressible fluids, their flow rate depends only on the difference between the inlet and outlet pressures (Δp, pressure drop). The flow is the same whether the system pressure is low or high, so long as the difference between the inlet and outlet pressures is the same.
Does mass affect flow rate?
The mass of any object is simply the volume that the object occupies times the density of the object. Considering the mass flow rate equation, it appears that for a given area and a fixed density, we could increase the mass flow rate indefinitely by simply increasing the velocity.
Is mass flow rate constant in a compressor?
Mass flow rate does remain constant as long as no mass is added or removed. Volume flow rate at standard conditions remains constant under changing thermodynamic conditions because it is calculated at a constant (imaginary) set of conditions.
Does flow rate affect pressure?
Under laminar flow conditions, pressure drop is proportional to volumetric flow rate. At double the flow rate, there is double the pressure drop. Under turbulent flow conditions, pressure drop increases as the square of the volumetric flow rate. Pressure drop increases as gas viscosity increases.
How is the inlet pressure of a turbocharger calculated?
It is calculated by taking the absolute outlet pressure and dividing by the absolute inlet pressure. (Note, most gauges read in gauge pressure i.e. zero psi at atmospheric when it is actually around 14.7 or so psi.) Due to how this is calculated, there are no units associated with this axis.
How does the operating temperature of a turbocharger work?
However, the low temperature of the inlet air plus the fact that most of the temperature rise occurs in the diffuser, where velocity is exchanged for pressure, typically keeps the operating temperature of the compressor wheel well below the compressor discharge temperature.
How are turbine inlet temperature and backpressure related?
In this study, the turbine power state is related to the compressor power state, and the effects of the turbine inlet temperature and the turbine backpressure on the reduced turbine mass flow rate performance are explained.
What makes a turbocharger different from a regular compressor?
The difference is the one on the right has a map-width enhancement groove. If you notice, at lower pressure ratios, both turbochargers flow about the same, but as the pressure ratio increases, there becomes a distinct difference between the two.
