What are the types of rolling bearing?
Tapered Roller Bearing.
What are rolling-element bearing used for?
Rolling-element bearings are often used for axles due to their low rolling friction. For light loads, such as bicycles, ball bearings are often used. For heavy loads and where the loads can greatly change during cornering, such as cars and trucks, tapered rolling bearings are used.
What is a bearing raceway?
The raceway in a ball bearing is the circular groove formed in the outside surface of the inner ring and in the inside surface of the outer ring. When the rings are aligned, these grooves form a circular track that contains the ball set.
What are two main classification of bearing?
Rolling bearings are divided into two main classifications: ball bearings and roller bearings.
Can roller bearing take axial load?
Tapered roller bearings are the most widely used among all roller bearings, and can support a radial load and a one-directional axial load at the same time. When axial loads coming from both directions are to be supported, two or more tapered roller bearings are combined together.
Why is it called a bearing race?
In the case of ball bearings, the bearing has inner and outer races and a set of balls. Each race is a ring with a groove where the balls rest. The groove is usually shaped so the ball is a slightly loose fit in the groove. Thus, in principle, the ball contacts each race at a single point.
Can you use split spherical roller bearings instead of unsplit?
Split spherical roller bearings can generally be mounted instead of unsplit spherical roller bearings with adapter sleeves. The preconditions for replacement are that the outside diameter, outer ring width and diameter of the shaft seat are identical and that the bearings are suitable for the load case, Figure2.
How does the number of balls affect a bearing?
The cage keeps the balls from touching each other. When the balls are allowed to touch and rub, the maximum speed of the bearing is reduced. A full complement of balls increases the load capacity by 30% over a bearing with fewer balls in a cage. ( Reference page 16) The Number of Balls affects the load on each individual ball.
What kind of material are split spherical bearings made of?
The bearings have a split solid cage made from glass fibre reinforced polyamide or brass, see Catalogue HR 1, Rolling Bearings. Split spherical roller bearings have the normal tolerances of unsplit radial bearings and the normal internal clearance of unsplit spherical roller bearings with a cylindrical bore (ISO 492:2014).
Can You Mount split spherical bearings in a plummer block?
Split split spherical roller bearings can in many cases be mounted in our split plummer block housings. At difficult to access locations in particular, this combination of a split bearing and split housing gives considerably easier mounting of bearings, Figure3, page 5.
