Do ham licenses expire?
Amateur radio licenses are good for ten years, but it’s easy to forget to renew your license, especially if you haven’t been active lately. Fortunately, renewing a license is easy to do, and at least for the time being, free of charge.
What is my ham radio license number?
Go to the FCC ULS page http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/ Enter a specific call sign, and select “Search.” Your FRN will appear on your License record. Some of the publicly available online amateur databases may also provide your FRN.
How long is ham radio license?
10 years
Licenses currently remain valid for 10 years from the date of issuance or renewal. Renewal can be done on-line. The entry-level license, known as Technician Class, is awarded after an applicant successfully completes a 35-question multiple choice written examination.
How much does it cost to renew a ham radio license?
According to the FCC Report and Order released December 29, 2020, Amateur Radio license fees will now cost $35. This same fee will apply to new licenses, renewal licenses, and vanity call signs.
How do I find my callsign?
Follow these steps to find your call sign online:
- Log on to the ULS system.
- In the Search section, click the Licenses button.
- Click the Amateur link in the Service Specific Search column in the middle of the page.
- In the Licensee section, enter your last name and zip code in the appropriate boxes.
How do I find the expiration date of my US HAM license?
Go to the FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS) web site and search for your license. You can search by call sign, name (in lastname, firstname initial order), or address (in the advanced search form). It will show you the expiration date and current status.
How do I renew my ham radio operator’s license?
Starting the Renewal. Go to the “License-at-A.-Glance” page. Click the link marked “Renew” in the right-hand column. If you’re license is eligible for renewal, a link to the Select Updates page will appear. If your license is not eligible for renewal, no link will appear.
What happens to your license when it expires?
If previously expired, do not transmit until you see a new expiration date a decade away (much like your original license experience). After the 2 year grace period has passed, the FCC will cancel your license and make it available for reissue. If your license gets canceled, your call sign is lost and you must pass an exam again to get re-licensed.
Can you still use your old ham call sign?
After you have obtained a new license and call sign, you may apply for your old call sign as a vanity call, if it is still available. Not all new hams are brand new to the game.
