What does TNC stand for in ham radio?
A terminal node controller (TNC) is a device used by amateur radio operators to participate in AX. 25 packet radio networks. It is similar in function to the Packet Assembler/Disassemblers used on X. 25 networks, with the addition of a modem to convert baseband digital signals to audio tones.

During the time of BBS’s there was a mode of amateur radio communication called Packet BBS or PBBS very similar to BBS’s but using amateur radio instead of phone lines. It was primarily a text system. It wasn’t really designed for sending and receiving large files such as pictures or applications.

Have a friend or two test and shake the system down. Make a list of the problem areas that need attention. Work on the list. When you have your “final product” then put it up and get the word out. Once you do get your BBS up and running, consider “advertising” it to attract users.
What does the letter B in packet BBS mean?
If you see or hear a lot of transmissions but nothing is displayed, it means your TNC and the PBBS TNC aren’t negotiating properly and you might need to adjust receive or transmit audio levels. The letter “B” means BYE and your TNC will disconnect from the PBBS.
