Does grease affect ABS sensor?
They aren’t affected by grease, but debris does interfere with them. In the sealed hubs, there is no debris in them, just grease.
Should there be grease on ABS sensor?
Grease = normal. The ABS sensor lives in grease and hovers right over the top of a toothed gear on the edge of a birfield packed in a chamber 3/4 full of molly grease.
Can I use silver anti-seize on brakes?
Anti-seize is not meant to be used on brakes. Grease is what’s meant to be used. Anti-seize belongs nowhere around a wheel hub or brake anyway.
Can you put anti seize on ABS sensor?
For the most part, no, the anti-seize will not affect the ABS sensor.
How do you clean your ABS sensors?
If you need to, use warm, soapy water to scrub away dirt from the sensor—just make sure that the sensor dries completely before you replace it. Use a wire brush or file to gently grind away stubborn rust or dirt. Be careful if you do choose to do this, as excessive cleaning could damage the sensor.
When should you not use anti seize?
Do not use anti-seize as a lubricant such as on caliper slide pins or on threads for a bushing press or any mechanical assembly that requires a lubricant. Do not use anti-seize on exposed threads because the compound can attract contaminants that may contribute to thread damage when the fastener is removed.
Should you use anti seize on brake caliper bolts?
Registered. Anti seize is no good for slide pins, it tends to solidify and not do its job very well for what it needs to to. I use a dab of blue loctite on the bracket bolts and a leave the caliper bolt threads dry. Never had an issue with those seizing, even in PA.
Does copper grease affect abs?
A third issue with copper grease is the effect it can have on a vehicle’s ABS, ESP and EPB systems. As copper is conductive, the presence of the metal in the braking system can interfere with the magnetic sensors found within a car’s ABS and electronics.
What is the best Caliper Pin grease?
Our pick for the best brake caliper grease is the Mission Automotive Dielectric Grease/Silicone Paste/Waterproof Marine Grease. It’s waterproof and seals and protects various components, including brake caliper pins. For a more budget-friendly option, consider the Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Caliper Lube.
Can you use silver grease on ABS sensors?
The problem with copper or silver grease is that it can effect the ABS sensors. Although rare it is becoming common enough for manufactures to specifically list it as a reason to void a warranty. I have also found that copper grease can dry out and seize up sliders.
How does ABS work on a General Motors car?
General Motors is well known for ABS problems. The problem comes from the speed sensors in the wheel bearings. The sensor slips into the wheel bearing and reads a toothed wheel inside. These sensors are very senesitive to the distance between the end of the sensor and the toothed wheel.
What kind of anti seize do you use?
The information pertaining to what anti-seize to use and where to use it appear to differ. For example, one source made a note of saying not to use silver anti-seize but instead copper. Another used silver.
Where to put anti seize on brake caliper?
Also some people put the anti-seize on the ends and back of the break pad for lubrication as well as on the metal running that the break pad rests on in the caliper. What anti-seize should be used? Where should it be used? Why? The problem with copper or silver grease is that it can effect the ABS sensors.
