Should the throttle body open all the way?
The wider the blade opens, the more air passes through your throttle body to the intake manifold. When you let up on the gas, the blade’s opening grows narrow, restricting air flow. If you don’t give your car any gas, then the blade will close all the way.
What does open up throttle mean?
Wide open throttle or wide-open throttle (WOT), also called full throttle, is the fully opened state of a throttle on an engine (internal combustion engine or steam engine). A throttle on a steam engine controls how much steam is sent to the cylinders from the boiler.
How do you know when your throttle body is going out?
When a throttle body is not functioning correctly, you’ll usually notice a distinctly poor or very low idle. If the problem is really severe, you might even begin stalling when coming to a stop or when the throttle is quickly pressed.

The caveat I’ll give you though, is that most vehicles today are drive by wire, meaning, there is a rheostat attached to the gas pedal which interprets your intent as to how fast the engine should be going. Generally, throttle bodies do not need to be replaced completely, but rather just need specific parts related to them replaced. I would also recommend checking the mass air flow sensor to be sure it is functioning correctly as well since this could also cause the car to hesitate or run poorly.

However, there’s no great advantage to this and, as you’ll see, there are reasons why it’s not such a great idea. Take a good look inside the throttle body using a flashlight. Operate the throttle linkage to open the throttle plate so you can see past the outside surface of the throttle body.

When that doesn’t happen, because the throttle body is dirty or faulty, the engine may stall. Problems with the throttle body can also cause an unstable idle. The PCM bases its idle calculations on a predetermined amount of airflow through the throttle body.
When to address a bad throttle body assembly?
The quick answer is no. Once it starts to show signs of going bad or being clogged, you should address the problem right away. Otherwise the vehicle may stall or fail to accelerate, creating a safety hazard. Both types of throttle body assemblies (mechanical and electronic) are located between the engine air filter and intake manifold.
