Can a bad thermostat make your car jerk?
If your thermostat doesn’t close properly, the radiator will cause the coolant temperature to drop below the optimum running temperature which can cause poor running. Another reason for this behaviour may be that there is an air lock / air bubble trapped somewhere within the system.
Why does my car keep jerking when I drive?
Dirty fuel injectors are among the most common reasons for why an accelerator becomes jerky. The dirty injector leads to your car losing power when you attempt to accelerate while at a stop and when you try to drive at a consistent speed. This is the result of an engine misfire.
Why is my car temperature dropping?
The reason the temperature gauge drops when driving is because there’s much greater airflow through the radiator when you’re at speed than at idle. That increased airflow drops the temperature on the coolant coming into the engine.
Can coolant cause your car to jerk?
The issue seems to be the head gasket is burned on your vehicle. The coolant is getting into the cylinders and the combustion gases are getting into the cooling system. This would explain why the engine would jerk when driving and why the coolant will get hot and cool off many times.
What happens if engine temperature is too low?
If the temp is too cold it affects fuel ecconomy and performance. If it is too hot engine parts overheat and get damaged. The thermostat does this by opening and allowing hot coolant into the radiator to be cooled. When the coolant temp is low it closes and allows the engine to warm to the designed temperature.
What should car temperature be at highway speeds?
Car temperature drops to a little less than 1/4 at highway speeds. Any reason to be concerned? Car is a Mk1 Golf. Driving around town the temperature behaves normally – it sits at the middle of the gauge, sometimes goes a little higher if I’m sitting in traffic but not much.
Why does my car jerk at low speeds?
Car jerks when accelerating at low speeds is not something rare. If you have driven a stick shift car before or if your car has a manual transmission, you are sure have experienced the car jerk followed by the engine stalling.
Why is my car engine temperature running low?
It will be that the upper radiator hose is hot to the touch as well when the engine is not yet at operating temperature. That would be another indication that the thermostat is not shutting off the flow of engine coolant (the coolant inside the upper rad hose comes through the thermostat a few inches away.
When does your car run hot or cold?
If you are like most drivers, our guess would be almost never. Most drivers look at their temperature gauge so rarely that many vehicle manufacturers don’t even include temperature gauges any more but just lights that will come on if your car is either extremely cold or extremely hot.
