Why do subs have carpet?
The subwoofer will vibrate a lot when it’s producing sound, and being on carpet will allow some of these vibrations to be absorbed, keeping the speaker box stable, and the speakers themselves projecting the right sounds in the right direction.
How do you cover a box with carpet?
If you are covering a cardboard box, use a spray adhesive on both the box and back of the carpet. A contact cement is too heavy to use on a cardboard box. Align the piece of carpet so it is straight, and slowly place it on the box. Make any adjustments as needed and press down firmly.
Is it OK to cover a subwoofer?
Usually, the easiest way to hide a subwoofer in your living room is to tuck it away inside a cabinet. However, you can conceal your subwoofer in any cabinet that has a free shelf or compartment.
Does a sub box need to be carpeted?
There is no acoustic advantage to carpet. It is just a matter of if you want your box to be wood(mdf) or covered. You could also just paint it but to get it glossy takes a lot of time and effort.
Does subwoofer need to be on floor?
As far as placing the subwoofer on the floor is concerned, the quick answer is that this is not the best option. Ideally, it should be elevated for the best sound output. But, elevating the subwoofer is not always practical.
Do down firing subwoofers work on carpet?
Most down firing subwoofers are placed on softer surfaces such as carpet. Although carpet will absorb some of the sound, it is better to place the down fire on carpet than it is on hard, smooth surfaces, as these will reflect sound directly and cause a boomy listening experience that can be fairly unpleasant.
Does subwoofer box shape matter?
I’ve heard mentioned that you should try to include at least one angle in the design to eliminate the possibility of standing waves inside the enclosure, but the general consensus around here is that the shape doesn’t matter.
