Why does my car not go into first gear?
It’s hard to shift into first and reverse because the clutch is not working properly. The number one cause is the hydraulic system that operates the clutch is leaking and has low fluid. Check the level in the clutch’s master cylinder mounted on the firewall and add brake fluid if it is low and get it checked out.

What to do when your stick goes into 1st gear?
If I press the clutch and move into 3rd gear then back into 1st it usually works as normal. I can also wiggle the stick sometimes when it only feels partially blocked and this gets rid of whatever is blocking it. The issue persists when the engine is not running.
