Why is my tire tread peeling?
A manufacturing defect is often what causes tire tread separation issues. Tread separation occurs when the belts underneath a tire’s tread come apart. When this happens, the tread itself begins to come off the rest of the tire. This can be especially dangerous at highway speeds.
Is it bad to scrape your tires on the curb?
A major problem resulting from hitting the curb is throwing your car’s suspension out of alignment. This will lead to uneven tire wear in as little as 200 miles. Your tire may also have suffered damage to the sidewall that could lead to a possibly dangerous blowout.
Can low tire tread cause a blowout?
The legal minimum tread depth in most states of the US is 2/32”, and a commentary suggests that’s already too shallow. After the depth reaches 4/32”, even a small pothole or a nail can cause a tire sidewall blowout.
What causes the tread on a tire to be torn off?
It almost looks as though the tread has been sliced or torn off in chunks from seemingly random areas. Tire damage like this typically occurs for one of two reasons. The first is related to suspension problems, such as a bad shock absorber making it impossible for the tire to maintain constant contact with the road.
What causes a tire liner to bulge out?
This type of tire damage usually results from a sharp impact with a pothole or a curb, which damages its inner liner. As such, air escapes from the liner and begins to push up against the outer rubber of the tire, creating the distended, bulging appearance.
When to run a tire with Curb rash?
If you aren’t seeing any of these things, you should not have any issues running your tire until the tread wears out (normal use). As a side note (and primarily my opinion with nothing to really back it up), the area where your damage has occurred seems to be extra rubber put in place on low profile tires to help protect the rims from curb rash.
