What kind of rope is used for towing?
Although a variety of materials are used to create towing ropes, the most common choice is a two inch strip of nylon. Because nylon is so strong, if it is thick enough it can be used to form a rope that can bear a very high weight capacity.
Are tow ropes still legal?
In a word, no. The law is pretty clear here – if the car being rope-towed has its four wheels on the ground, it’s treated the same as any other roadworthy vehicle, meaning that it must be insured and taxed with a valid MOT. So in this instance, you’re going to need a trailer.

TITAN Paracord will float initially due to any air trapped in the Nylon strands, but will then slowly sink. Nylon is denser than water and so is negatively buoyant. If your looking for a paracord that will float, you’ll need to buy some cheaper commercial stuff that is not MIL-C-5040 compliant.
Is it illegal to tow on a motorway?
