What can cause higher than normal fuel pressure?
Fuel pressure that is too high, can cause the engine to run too rich. Common causes of high fuel pressure include; a bad fuel regulator or a clogged return line.
What has fuel pressure but no flow?
The fuel injectors can’t flow normally if they have low fuel pressure caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator. If fuel pressure is low, disconnect the vacuum hose to the regulator or check the sensors that control the regulator in the tank. You should see an increase in pressure if the regulator is not leaking.
What are the symptoms of high fuel pressure?
Symptoms of High Fuel Pressure
- Check engine light.
- The exhaust gives off fuel smell.
- Low fuel economy and constant refuelling.
- Poor engine performance.
- Blackened spark plugs.
- Spark plugs that are wet with fuel.
- Restrictions in return line.
Why does my car have so much fuel volume?
This may be due to a restriction, such as a plugged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. A fuel pump may supply adequate pressure at an idle and still cause problems under a load. This is because the engine uses much more fuel when accelerating. Volume is how much fuel we deliver in a specific period.
Why does my fuel pump have a low volume?
Adequate volume with the system blocked suggest leakage in the system, such as a bad fuel pressure regulator. Volume that remains low means a restricted filter, line or a bad fuel pump. We can replace the fuel filter and repeat the test or with the proper adaptors check volume at the filter inlet.

Why does fuel bubble during a volume test?
During a volume test, the regulated fuel should flow smoothly and without large bubbles. An erratic fuel flow might indicate a mechanical problem with the pump assembly or inlet screen. While some bubbling is normal due to fuel agitation, large bubbles indicate that air is entering the pump inlet.
