What should you do if you drive through a deep puddle?
If you find yourself in this situation, here’s what to do:
- Coast. Don’t brake or speed up.
- Keep the wheel steady. Don’t swerve.
- Turn off cruise control. Cruise control could cause your car to accelerate while going through the water.
- After exiting water, test brakes at low speeds.
Can you drive through puddles?
Driving through puddles on rainy days might seem like an inevitability. Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is illegal to drive “without reasonable consideration for other persons”, including “driving through a puddle causing pedestrians to be splashed”.
