What affects your mileage?
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower your gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic. Excessive idling decreases MPG. Driving at higher speeds increases aerodynamic drag (wind resistance), reducing fuel economy.
Does injector cleaner really work?
While injector cleaners are effective and can stop new blockages forming, they won’t always be powerful enough for removing heavy deposits. The good news is that injector cleaners are inexpensive, so it won’t hurt to at least try a bottle in your fuel mix when you are experiencing problems.
Why is my gas mileage dropping so much?
When the fuel system does not work as designed, the efficiency level is likely to reduce. However, if the drop is sudden and serious, you should find out the reason and fix it. Fortunately, some problems are not serious and can be fixed by changing some of your driving habits.
What does a sudden drop in mileage mean?
A ‘sudden’ drop in mileage means a component has failed, especially if it was some time after the service. The first thing to do in this sort of event is to do a leak-off test on the injectors. If an injector has failed this will show it. A faulty injector will allow a lot more fuel through, usually accompanied with black smoke from the exhaust.
What could be the reason and solution to a sudden drop in?
If the drop is sudden and temporary then it is probably due to a active regeneration of the DPF where extra fuel is injected into the cylinders, not part of the power stroke, to create extra heat in the DPF which in turn burns off the particulate mater.
What does it mean when Your MPG drops 20%?
BTW, there is a code if the ECT (engine coolant temp) does not come up withing a certain time frame. You could also have a fuel leak. My 2010 FIT dropped 20% immediately upon moving to a much colder climate. I checked tire pressure and changed air filter, changed gas stations. Still off by 20% ( 10 miles per gallon).
