Why does my RPM shoot up when I accelerate?
When the transmission develops a leak and fluid levels fall, a vehicle will begin to rev at higher levels as a result of the gearbox band or torque converter slipping. The vehicle may also experience irregular or delayed gear shifting. A manual vehicle experiencing this difficulty may be related to a slipping clutch.
Why does my car revs up when high?
Common causes of high RPM excursion at start-up are typically: large vacuum leak, throttle plate stuck open, cruise control stepper motor stuck in one position; faulty throttle position sensor, and/or faulty idle air control motor or solenoid.
When do Revs shoot up in high gear?
My revs shot right up reaching roughly 5000 without any acceleration then after a few seconds the revs went back down to normal and speed eventually went faster but it’s happening all the time. 1st and 2nd work fine, but 3rd and above fail in speed and revs shoot right up all over. 3rd gear was not actually that bad at some points.
When do engine revs rise when changing gear?
After driving my New Vectra for almost a week now I have noticed that when I change gear (when the engine revs build up to around 2 -2.5k) the engine revs rise up by around 300 rpm when I dip the clutch. The revs fall to the idle speed after a second or so.

My 2005 Nissan Sentra runs great except when I start to accelerate to get speed, my rpms rev up and you can hear it. I try to coast as much as possible. I only drive no more then 5 miles a day no faster then 40 mph.

Runs on petrol. Manual drive Brought the car 4 months ago. I recently took it to Vauxhall for a new fuel pump relay. However ever since my car is over revving whenever I accelerate but it doesn’t gain speed. When I’m driving along the dual carriage way it takes ages to pick up speed yet the car is over revving.
