What is direct input monitoring?
Direct monitoring is when your headphones receive the exact “direct” signal input to your audio interface. TLDR: Direct monitoring is when you route the input signal directly to the headphones with no delayed computer processing. Direct monitoring is for listening to the live, non-converted, non-delayed signal.
Why can I still hear input signal when I’m not recording or when my recording software is not open?
This is due to the interface’s direct monitoring feature being enabled. Direct monitoring is when the audio signal from your interface’s mic, line or instrument input is routed directly to the outputs on the interface.
How important is direct monitoring?
Direct monitoring allows a user to listen to the input signal of the interface with near-zero latency. If, when recording, you find that there is latency or “delay” on the signal you are monitoring, you should switch on the direct monitoring on the interface and then mute the audio track that you are recording to.
Does Focusrite Scarlett have direct monitoring?

What is the difference between direct monitoring and input monitoring?
What is Direct Monitoring? 1 Direct monitoring is for listening to the live, non-converted, non-delayed signal. 2 The monitored signal is not converted from analog or digital and instead routed directly to the headphones or speakers. More
Can a direct monitor be used in mono?
Although these interfaces have two inputs, the signal heard back when using the Direct Monitor switch will be in mono, meaning that both inputs will be heard in both ears.
How does an earmix personal monitor system work?
The input module then connects to a distribution hub that allows multiple personal monitor mixers to be powered over Ethernet. Any actual mixing and processing, if available, is done locally on each personal monitor mixer. PreSonus EarMix takes this concept one step further. In an EarMix system, a StudioLive Series III mixer is the input module.
Can a monitor be used with an audio interface?
You’ll want software monitoring disabled regardless of which direct monitoring solution your audio interface employs. One of the easiest solutions is to simply blend the analog input signal with the playback from the computer.
