Should speakers be in front or behind you?
Angle your speakers inward so they’re pointed towards the listener – more specifically, at a point directly behind the listener’s head. If you want good sound across a wider listening area, then decrease toe-in. Increase or decrease the angle of your speakers a few degrees at a time until you hit that sweet spot!
Is it OK to put speakers behind you?
Do your ears swivel? If so, then put the speakers behind you, and swivel your ears to listen “backwards”. Seriously, if that’s the best you can do, then put them behind you. You’ll still hear and enjoy the music, but you won’t have the same degree of realism/soundstage that you could get with them in front of you.
Can surround speakers be placed behind?
Ideally, the surround speakers in a 5.1 surround sound configuration should be placed just behind or to the side of your listening position. Dolby recommends an angle of 110° to 120° from your listening position, as in the image below. The surround speakers should be slightly higher than the front speakers in the room.
Where do you position speakers?
For stereo music reproduction the ideal position is usually to place the speakers so that they form two corners of an equilateral triangle, the third corner being you the listener. This means for example; if the speakers are 3m apart from each other, they will also be 3m from your listening position.
Can I put subwoofer behind me?
You can place a subwoofer behind you or in the back of the room but this is likely not going to be the most optimal location. Ideally, the subwoofer should be placed at the front of the room pulled at least 6-inches away from the wall for the best low-frequency audio signal performance.
How far from the wall should a subwoofer be?
In fact, high-quality subs tend to sound their best when pulled at least 8 to 12 inches from any wall. Subwoofers also work better in the front half of your listening space, placed closer to your front-channel loudspeakers to lessen timing delays and phase cancellation.
How far back can surround speakers be?
Rear speakers can sit back 6-10ft from the listener with the tweeter placed at least 2ft above the listener’s ear. Ideally, the speaker will be placed at least 2ft away from the surface behind it, or you can use wall-mounted speakers- in either case, angled between 135-150° from the room’s center.
Can you put a subwoofer behind a couch?
While subwoofers are often placed in the front left corner of the room, putting a subwoofer behind the couch (as long as it remains 25-35cm from the wall) can be optimal and help with localization. To test the best location for a subwoofer in your space, use an SPL to measure frequency response.
Should subwoofer be in front or back of room?
Typically, you position a subwoofer along the front wall of the room. Moving all of the bass sounds to the subwoofer gives your front speakers the ability to focus on mid- and high-range frequencies.
What’s the best way to place a loudspeaker in a chair?
Simply tape a string to the midpoint of the listening chair, trying for a spot as close to ear level as possible. Now, unroll enough string to reach one of the speakers, then pull the string taught to a reference point on the speaker, I like to use the tweeter.
What should be considered when placing a speaker?
In general, the direct sound from the speakers is primarily responsible for the image, while the reflected sounds contribute most to the tonality of the speaker (richness, leanness, etc) and an overall sense of ambience. Any boundary surface (back wall, sidewall, floor) can cause a reflection, and all need to be considered during placement.
How do you adjust the placement of a speaker?
Now, unroll enough string to reach a speaker, then pull the string taught at a reference point on the speaker. Grasp that point on the string with your thumb and forefinger, then walk to the other speaker and compare. Adjust positioning until each speaker is at precisely the same distance.
Where is the best place to place a stereo speaker?
In general, proximity to the sidewall will more influence midrange balance while the distance to the back wall will have more impact on bass. It is most important to insure that the distance to the back and side walls are unequal. Do not place the speaker, say, 20″ from both back and side walls.
