Can you run 120v through speaker wire?
The main thing to watch in routing low-voltage signal cable is avoiding high-voltage AC wiring. It is OK to cross low voltage signal and speaker wires at 90 degrees to electrical wiring (cross perpendicularly), but avoid running parallel and close to electrical wiring.
Should speaker wires be the same length?
Speaker wires should be the same length: It seems to make sense that speaker wires should be identical to eliminate phase shifts. It would take miles of speaker wire to hear any difference. So having wires a foot or two (or 10) different is irrelevant.
Can you run RCA cables next to speaker wire?
The only time that people have noise issues, is when they run the RCA right beside the power cable. Even at that, it rarely ever produces noise… Yes yes, don’t give it a second thought. Don’t kill yourself trying to separate the cables.
Can speaker wire cause a fire?
When dealing with electricity the potential for fire always exists. With speaker wire the threat level is very low, as the voltages involved are low, while amplifiers usually have protection circuits that will shut the amp down in the event of a short circuit.
Can you run speaker wires in parallel to each others?
According to my reading is best to avoid running speakers wires in parallel and close to electrical wiring. I belive, one option is to cross low voltage signal and speaker wires at 90 degrees to electrical wiring at at least 16″ apart.. Click to expand… This is overstated.
What happens if you run speaker cable with network interference?
FatMike’s link brings up a very important question. In that link the issue was running speaker wire from a 400W amp to an 8-ohm speaker, which would have rather high voltage and lots of current on it, wreaking havoc on anything near it even if the data cable is running 100 / 1,000 MHz. Hopefully you aren’t doing that.
What kind of speaker wire should I use?
If you are running legitimate low-voltage audio and you do hear some cross-talk, running a well-shielded (braided shield and foil shield) cable for speaker-wire should be sufficient.
Can a speaker cable and an electrical cable cross?
Speaker cables and electrical cables , if they have to cross paths should do so ideally at a right angle. Doesn’t appear relevant to you here but interesting maybe. In reality I think you would probably only experience any issues if you had a lot of electrical cables bunched tightly together in parralel with audio cables.
