How is reverb different from delay?
Reverb is often best described as a way to make your guitar sound more full or bigger sounding. Delay on the other hand is an audio effect where your guitar signal is recorded and then played back after an amount of time.
Is reverb delayed?
Technically, reverb (as well as chorus and flangers) is a delay effect. It’s a time-based repeating effect that emulates soundwaves bouncing around a room. Delay is also time-based.
What comes first delay or reverb?
As we discussed earlier, reverb—and sometimes delay, depending on the space—is the last thing that happens before the sound reaches your ears in a physical space, so these go last. Delaying reverb can sound muddy, so it’s usually better to have the reverb after the delay.
Is Echo a reverb?
Here’s a quick explanation: An echo is a single reflection of a soundwave off a distance surface. Reverberation is the reflection of sound waves created by the superposition of such echoes. An echo is usually clear and can be easily distinguished because of the distance and time the sound wave travels.
Does delay go after reverb?
Should tremolo go after reverb?
Moving your modulation/delay/reverb effects around can create different sounds. If you want tremolo’d reverb (for example, I’d call a Fender Princeton a reverb-into-tremolo effect), place your reverb before your tremolo. If you want chorus’d delay, try placing your chorus after your delay.
Should reverb be last?
Normally reverb should go last on a chain. This way it will effect the sum total of all other effects, including delay, to give a “room” or “hall” feel to it.
Should reverb be placed before or after delay?
In a guitar signal chain, the delay unit is generally placed before a reverb pedal, but it’s up to the individual musician to decide on the order. Putting delay before reverb can muddy up the sound, so most guitarists prefer placing it after the delay. Before the advent of reverb pedals, guitarists used quirky homemade devices for the reverb effect.
What is the difference between reverb, echo and delay?
That echo quickly turns into reverb as the sound is reflected off a second, third, and fourth surface. Think of delay as a single copy of the sound at a later time. Reverb is commonly added to a voice to fill it out. Using the reverb knob (also known as the talent knob), offending frequencies can be masked.
Do you use delay and reverb at same time?
Yes. As long as you has a system that allows you to use both on the same channel. The trick is to use delay first and then reverb. Reverb should always be the last effect.
Can I use effects such as reverb and delay?
Can I use delay and reverb together? Yes , but this might end up muddying the mix. If you decide to do this anyway, put the delay in front of the reverb, and not the other way around, and this will create a longer pre-delay effect.
