Why was Windows Phone discontinued?
In January 2019, Microsoft announced that they were ending the support to Windows 10 Mobile in December 10, 2019. The reason being, there were no plans to develop new phone models for Windows 10 platform.

Can I still use Windows Phone in 2021?
Application updates and installs should be fine until at least the end of 2021. The old 8.1 Store was given 30 months after end of support for the OS itself, if we extrapolate that to Windows 10 Mobile then the Store might last until summer 2022.
What happens when I upgrade my Windows Phone?
