What does a planer sled do?
The sled allows you to adjust the board and secure it so it maintains it’s position and the planer can take off the high spots until the top is flat. Then you can remove it from the sled and run it through the planer with the jointed face on the bed and BAM! Flat board.
Do planer sleds work?
To flatten those boards with my big planer, I use a planer sled with a long clamp-on saw guide embedded into it to hold the board. The wedges stay put with hand pressure only and keep the board rock-steady on the sled. The system works wonderfully.
