What is Maloof finish?
Sam Maloof Oil/Wax Finish is a blend of oils and waxes used as a final coat over Sam Maloof’s Poly/Oil Finish to create a soft, hand-rubbed appearance while enlivening the wood’s character. This topcoat is recommended for fine pieces that won’t be exposed to heat or moisture.
What is the purpose of putting an oil or wax into the wooden surface?
Oil Finish Oil is made of molecules small enough to seep down into the wood rather than merely sit on top. As a result, oil makes wood look richer and more translucent without adding a film on the surface.
How do I apply to Sam Maloof?
Do I apply first coat with a rag, let sit for 30mins, then wipe off. Then let that dry and then sand with 400 and apply more poly/oil and sand it into a slurry to fill in the grain and wipe off. Let dry and apply another coat with rag, dry and sand again with 400, dry then apply last coat with rag.

I noticed that the Maloof oil/poly can suggests using Maloof Oil/Wax as a top coat. I assumed that the oil/wax was just like the Liberon paste wax I’ve used, but I took a look at the MSDS and was pretty surprised. It looks like it’s basically just BLO+tung oil and a really small amount of wax.
