What do you need to know about lighting in WebGL?
Lighting in WebGL. As should be clear by now, WebGL doesn’t have much built-in knowledge. It just runs two functions you supply — a vertex shader and a fragment shader — and expects you to write creative functions to get the results you want. In other words, if you want lighting you have to calculate it yourself.
How are textures handled in WebGL-Web APIs?
This will allow non-power-of-two (NPOT) textures at the expense of mipmapping, UV wrapping, UV tiling, and your control over how the device will handle your texture. Again, with these parameters, compatible WebGL devices will automatically accept any resolution for that texture (up to their maximum dimensions).
How does the RGB value in WebGL work?
Once the amount of directional lighting is computed, we can generate the lighting value by taking the ambient light and adding in the product of the directional light’s color and the amount of directional lighting to provide. As a result, we now have an RGB value that will be used by the fragment shader to adjust the color of each pixel we render.
Do you need to update fragment shader for WebGL?
The fragment shader now needs to be updated to take into account the lighting value computed by the vertex shader:
How does clustered deferred forward plus work in WebGL?
The Clustered Deferred Shading model implemented here can handle more than 2100 lights at 60 FPS but this over saturates the scene. This project implements Clustered Deferred and Clustered Forward Shading Techniques. These techniques improve performance for scenes with many dynamic lights.
Why are clusters called grids in WebGL?
Clustering is the binning technique used to store lights in a spatial data structure based on their area of influence. Clusters arent simply called grids because they are made y slicing up the camera view frustum, which makes each cluster a tiny frustum.
How does deferred shading work in WebGL?
Deferred shading is an improvement over this by only dealing with the fragments with the smallest z-depth, which is accomplished via a culling stage and using a “g-buffer”. These solutions allow you to have an enormous number of dynamic lights in the scene when optimized. This project can run over 2100 lights at 60 FPS.
How to calculate shading for a vertex in WebGL?
Once the position of the vertex is computed, and we pass the coordinates of the texel corresponding to the vertex to the fragment shader, we can work on computing the shading for the vertex. The first thing we do is transform the normal based on the current orientation of the cube, by multiplying the vertex’s normal by the normal matrix.
