Should I turn FXAA on or off?
Polypheme. The nvidia control panel FXAA will override the in game FXAA, it shouldn’t matter which you choose they should do the same thing. I would just use the in game FXAA and leave nvdia control panel FXAA off. FXAA certainly is not going to get rid of all aliasing, especially with a 900p monitor.
Should I enable FXAA?
The FXAA method is so good, in fact, it makes all other forms of full-screen anti-aliasing pretty much obsolete overnight. If you have an FXAA option in your game, you should enable it immediately and ignore any other AA options.
Does FXAA affect performance?
For less powerful PC’s FXAA is your best bet as it will smooth those jagged edges with the least amount of performance impact. SSAA combats jagged objects very efficiently, but it does require a high-end PC to work smoothly without performance dips.

Yes you can run MSAA, FXAA, and even TrSSAA all together at once. I generally leave FXAA on as it has minimal impact on performance. Of course, like anytime you want to optimize your game settings, its best to play around with different options.

Is Smaa better than MSAA?
Generally, SMAA is less taxing, but MSAA offers a better result. Personally, I think you’re splitting hairs after 2x MSAA.
Why do I use FXAA instead of MSAA?
Personally, my specs are a GTX 770 2GB, i7 4770K CPU and 16GB RAM. I use FXAA instead of MSAA so I can maintain 60fps at 1080p with most settings cranked up, and also stay under the VRAM limit (going over results in stuttering, fps drops and pop-in).
Why do you need FXAA in video games?
It’s not something you’ll find in every modern game release, but FXAA can certainly make a difference in the visual quality. As games become more technically advanced, more mechanics are implemented to deliver the highest-quality picture. FXAA is just the latest in those options to help ensure your incredibly expensive monitor wasn’t for naught.
Do you have to use FXAA in Skyrim?
Don’t use FXAA unless you can’t use MSAA. FXAA will remove jagged edges if you can’t use MSAA, but will also blur the game. MSAA needs a fairly powerful graphics card, FXAA doesn’t. Personally I would rather not use AA at all in Skyrim than FXAA, but some people don’t mind or actually like the blurring. Normally, in most other games FXAA sucks.
How does FXAA work on a grayscale image?
FXAA works by selectively reducing the contrast of the image, smoothing out visually obvious jaggies and isolated pixels. Contrast is determined by comparing the light intensity of pixels. The exact colors of pixels doesn’t matter, it’s their luminance that counts. Effectively, FXAA works on a grayscale image containing only the pixel brightness.
