Which activation function is used for regression in neural network?
tanh is a superior function but ReLU is computationally better, thus for general problems use ReLU. Sigmoids and tanh functions are sometimes avoided due to the vanishing gradient problem. If you encounter a case of dead neurons in our networks the leaky ReLU function is the best choice.
Which activation would you use for a regression problem where the values you want to estimate are strictly non negative?
ReLU units or similar variants can be helpful when the output is bounded above (or below, if you reverse the sign). If the output is only restricted to be non-negative, it would make sense to use a ReLU activation as the output function.
Why do we not use activation function in regression model?
So my question is that is it by choice we don’t use any activation function in the output layer of a regression model as we don’t want the activation function to limit or put restrictions on the value. The output value can be any number and as big as thousands so the activation function like sigmoid to tanh won’t make sense.
When do you use a linear activation function?
If your problem is a regression problem, you should use a linear activation function. Regression : One node, linear activation. If your problem is a classification problem, then there are three main types of classification problems and each may use a different activation function.
How are activation functions used in a network?
A network may have three types of layers: input layers that take raw input from the domain, hidden layers that take input from another layer and pass output to another layer, and output layers that make a prediction. All hidden layers typically use the same activation function.
Which is combination of loss and activation functions should be used?
The purpose of this post is to provide guidance on which combination of final-layer activation function and loss function should be used in a neural network depending on the business goal. This post assumes that the reader has knowledge of activation functions.
