What is a feature in feature store?
Feature stores pull data from enterprise data warehouses or streaming applications. The data is transformed to produce features for ML models and applications, then it’s stored in the feature store. Those features can then be retrieved and served to model training jobs or scoring applications.
What do you store in a database?
The purpose of every database is to store information, texts, images, even media files. All dynamic modern websites rely on one or more databases for storing articles and other published content, information about the users, contact information, connections to other websites, ads, etc.
What is feature storage?
A feature store is a data warehouse of features for machine learning. Differently from a data warehouse, it is dual-database: one serving features at low latency to online applications and another storing large volumes of features. Learn how Data Scientists leverage this capability in production-deployed models.
Why do you need to store data in a database?
Databases can store very large numbers of records efficiently (they take up little space). It is easy to add new data and to edit or delete old data. Data can be searched easily, eg ‘find all Ford cars’. More than one person can access the same database at the same time – multi-access .
Why do we need a feature store?
Feature stores compute and store features, enabling them to be registered, discovered, used, and shared across a company. A feature store makes sure features are always up to date for predictions and maintains the history of each feature’s values in a consistent manner, so that models can be trained and re-trained.
What should not be stored in a database?
Finally, you shouldn’t store credit card information in your database unless you absolutely need to. This includes credit card owner names, numbers, CVV numbers, and expiration dates. There is far too much risk involved.
Why do we need feature store?
Are views stored permanently?
If you mean the tables the view produces then the answer is that they aren’t stored at all. A view is just a query, and that is all it stores.
Where are views stored?
data dictionary
The view is a query stored in the data dictionary, on which the user can query just like they do on tables. It does not use the physical memory, only the query is stored in the data dictionary. It is computed dynamically, whenever the user performs any query on it.
Why do we need entity based feature store?
An entity-based data model provides minimal structure to support standardized feature management, fits naturally with common feature engineering workflows, and allows for simple retrieval queries in production.
Where is data stored in a feature store?
Offline feature store data is often stored in data warehouses or data lakes like S3, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift. Extending an existing data lake or data warehouse for offline feature storage is typically preferred to prevent data silos.
How are transactional data lakes enable feature engineering?
Transactional data lakes also enable incremental feature engineering — compute features only for the data that has changed in the last hour or day — by enabling clients to read only those changes in a dataset since a given point in time.
How is a feature store implemented in DynamoDB?
They are usually implemented with key-value stores like DynamoDB, Redis, or Cassandra. Feature stores use an entity-based data model where each feature value is associated with an entity (e.g. a user) and a timestamp.
