How many observations are in the Titanic dataset?
Anyone familiar with Kaggle, the data science and machine learning dataset resource, may already recognize the Titanic dataset. This dataset provides observations for each passenger on the Titanic and their survival outcome. For the purposes of this project, only 871 observations from the training set were used.
What is the Titanic data set?
This data set contains the survival status of 1309 passengers aboard the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in 1912 (the ships crew are not included), along with the passengers age, sex and class (which serves as a proxy for economic status). 70% of the data was selected (using stratified sampling) for the training set.
What was the age distribution on the Titanic?
Which of the following are true? Females and males had the same general shape of age distribution. The age distribution was bimodal, with one mode around 25 years of age and a second smaller mode around 5 years of age. There were more females than males.
How do I load a titanic dataset in R?
Load the Titanic dataset You can simply click on Import Dataset button and select the file to import or enter the URL.
What is survived in Titanic dataset?
From a sample of the RMS Titanic data, we can see the various features present for each passenger on the ship: Survived: Outcome of survival (0 = No; 1 = Yes) Pclass: Socio-economic class (1 = Upper class; 2 = Middle class; 3 = Lower class) Name: Name of passenger.
How does a data scientist use the Titanic data?
The aspiring data scientist is supposed to make his model ‘learn’ from the training data set (which contain an additional column on whether the passenger survived or not) and apply these ‘learnings’ to the test data set and predict which of the passengers in the test dataset survives.
Why is the target variable missing in the Titanic dataset?
The test data set is used for the submission, therefore the target variable is missing. Let´s have a look at the data sets: How I already wrote in the introduction, the target variable “Survived” is missing in the test data set.
Why did the Titanic have a multivariate analysis?
It could be because of the additional services offered to female passengers. Multivariate Analysis helps us in mining for a deeper understanding of the relationship between variables when compared to Bivariate Analysis.
How is qcut used in the Titanic dataset?
With qcut we decompose a distribution so that there are the same number of cases in each category. On average, younger passengers have a higher chance of survival and so do people with higher ticket prices. Young people were probably rescued first and the people with higher ticket prices had access to the lifeboats first.
