RSS feeds may not be as popular as they once were, but they’re still quite relevant. Instead of visiting the website multiple times to find new content or search through a crowded social media timeline, RSS feeds send tailored content directly to the user.
How does a RSS feed work?
RSS works by having the Web site author maintain a list of notifications on their Web site in a standard way. Special computer programs called RSS aggregators have been developed that automatically access the RSS feeds of Web sites you care about on your behalf and organize the results for you.
What do you need to know about a RSS feed?
Each feed must contain at least one valid item entry. The headline for the item’s content. A summary of the full content that the item was created to represent. The URL for the webpage, or for the section of a webpage, that contains the item’s full content.
How does RSS feed conform to XML 1.0?
An RSS document, also called a feed, must conform to the XML 1.0 specification and may contain elements and attributes defined in a namespace according to the Namespaces in XML specification. RSS elements do not belong to a namespace. All elements in an RSS feed that are not defined in a namespace must be described in the specification.
What does the cloud field do in RSS feed?
All the cloud fields are optional. The Text Input settings allows a data entry box to be displayed within your feed. It can be used to collect information from the reader, or act on data they enter. Not all feed readers support this option.
