Are SMS messages stored on server?
When you receive and send text messages, they’re sent through — and saved by — your service provider’s data network. Data is then maintained on the phone. Deleting these messages clears them from the visible display, but a small piece of data is still stored temporarily in the device’s system memory.
Can a network provider see text messages?
Short answer: Yes. SMS (and MMS) content (the payload) can be read by the CSP – Communication Service Provider. Protocol analyser can also be used to look at the protocol, e.g. MAP, and at the SMS content.

How long are SMS messages stored on servers?
Some phone companies also keep records of sent text messages. They sit on the company’s server for anywhere from three days to three months, depending on the company’s policy. Verizon holds texts for up to five days and Virgin Mobile keeps them for 90 days.

The SMS Provider doesn’t use system resources on the site server. This location can provide the best performance of the three locations, if sufficient server resources are available. The SMS Provider uses system and network resources that could be dedicated to site database operations.
Can a Site Server host an SMS provider?
When the site database is hosted on a clustered instance of SQL Server, you can’t use this location. SMS Provider doesn’t use site server or site database system resources. This type of location lets you deploy more SMS Providers to provide high availability for connections.
How are MMSCs used to exchange MMS messages?
All messages that are powered by Bandwidth that are MMS go through at least one MMSC in order to reach the recipient. When the sender and the recipient have different MMSCs, Bandwidth uses the MM4 protocol in order to exchange the message between two MMSCs.
When do I need to install an SMS provider?
By default, an SMS Provider installs on the site server when you install a central administration site (CAS) or primary site.
