Are there any indexes with high lock waits?

Are there any indexes with high lock waits?

Each one has a high number of waits and escalation attempts. I’m not sure where these are coming from. I don’t have missing indexes. I don’t see searches on this table taking a long time so not sure if these are coming from selects or inserts. Need some pointers on where to look next. Actual escalations: 1. NC indexes on table: 1

Can a multi primary key be used as an index?

This should be selected as answer as it explains that multi primary key is used like index and uses left prefix, so creating an index with item column is useful and not redundant, while the creating an index for the invoice column would be redundant due to left prefix access.

Why are multi column indexes less useful in SQL?

The multiple-column index becomes less useful for querying against a single column the further the column appears into the index. This makes some sense if you think of the multi-column index as a hierarchy. The first column in the index is the root of the hierarchy, so searching it is just a matter of scanning that first level.

Which is the best lock in SQL Server?

By default, SQL Server will acquire the finest-grain lock possible, in order to attain the greatest concurrency. In most cases, this means SQL Server will acquire row (RID or KEY) locks. SQL Server can acquire hundreds or thousands of individual locks on data in a single table without causing any problems.

How often does SQL Server try to escalate an index?

More than 10 lock escalation attempts. This means that so many individual lock requests were being issued for the index that SQL Server tried to escalate it up. (Escalation can go to the partition level or table level, depending on what you’ve configured.) There’s a gotcha here.

When does a page lock escalate to a table lock?

Similarly, page locks are always escalated to table locks. When the Database Engine checks for possible escalations at every 1250 newly acquired locks, a lock escalation will occur if and only if a Transact-SQL statement has acquired at least 5000 locks on a single reference of a table.
