Are transistors basically and gates?
transistors in combination can create any logic like AND, NAND NOR etc. The point here is a transistor is not basically a GATE. Its a device which can work both in analogue and digital circuitry.
When a BJT is used in a logic gate it?
A bipolar junction transistor is a three-terminal device which acts as a current-controlled switch. If we put a small current into one of the terminals, called the base, then the switch is “on”—current may flow between the other two terminals, called the emitter and the collector.
Are logic gates transistors?
“A logic gate in a microchip is made up of a specific arrangement of transistors. For modern microchips, the transistors are of the kind called Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET), and the semiconductor used is silicon. “In a logic-gate arrangement, each of the MOSFETs works like a switch.
Why is a PNP NOT gate called a NOT gate?
A Not gate is also called a negator, because it ‘negates’ (or toggles) the input, i.e., if it receives a logic 1, it outputs a logic 0, and if it receives a logic 0, it outputs a logic 1. NPN and PNP Not gates Notice that the NPN-based buffer and the PNP-based negator have the same configuration; the only difference is the transistor.
Can a PNP transistor be used for a NPN gate?
PNP Or gate 1101 and 1011 series gates Replacing one of the NPN transistors of the Nand gate with a PNP transistor moves the output 0 to a different combination of inputs as follows: 1101 and 1011 NPN and PNP circuits
How is a NOR gate made using BJT?
The NOR gate using BJT is shown in fig.13, let Q1 be the transistor connected to VA and Q2 be the transistor connected to VB. If VA=VB=0 then VOUT=1, If VA=VB=1 or VA=0 and VB=1 or VA=1 and VB=0 then VOUT =0. The corresponding potentials are Vout=6V – V4.7K for Logic 1 at the output and VOUT=VCE (sat) (Q1 or Q2)
What should resistance be for PNP logic gates?
I could not find any website with information about logic gates with PNP transistors; for our purposes, the following circuits work fine. As a general note, when using a voltage of around 5.5-5v, the resistance at the base of the transistor should be about 10kΩ, while the resistance of the emitter or collector should be about 1-5kΩ.
