Can a high voltage circuit be used with a low voltage circuit?
If only a low voltage DC source is available, designers can implement a circuit based on a boost-mode DC/DC switching regulator designed for this purpose. If an AC line is available, then one or more voltage doubling circuits can be used (Figure 1).
How does a low voltage, high current power supply work?
The LTC3729 dual current mode PolyPhase controller provides the performance and reliability required by low voltage, high current computer and network systems. The Polyphase technique interleaves the clock signal of several paralleled power stages, thus reducing the input and output ripple current so less capacitance is required.
What does it mean when DC voltage is below normal?
A dc voltage variation below the normal rated voltage indicates a problem. In some applications, dc voltage measurements may be taken in circuits that include ac voltage. To ensure maximum accuracy of a dc voltage measurement, first measure and record the ac voltage.
What should I do if my DC voltage is too high?
If the voltage measurement falls within the range of a lower dc millivolts setting, follow these steps: Disconnect the test probes. Change the dial setting to dc millivolts. Reconnect the test probes and read the measurement.
What happens if you short circuit a voltage source?
This leads to the danger of voltage sources. If you short circuit the two outputs of a voltage source together, meaning resistance is effectively zero, then the voltage source will attempt to create enough current to maintain that voltage potential, which will result in, effectively, infinite current.
How does a constant current source power supply circuit work?
This increase in conduction of Q3 allows more current to flow through the load and the 0.1-ohm resistor. If the current flowing through the resistor goes beyond 1 amp, then the voltage across the 0.1ohm resistor becomes greater than 0.1V.
How are current sources different from voltage sources?
In contrast to voltage sources, current sources don’t go well with open-circuits. If there is an open circuit between the two nodes of a current source, that ideal current source will attempt to “force” a current by increasing its voltage.
What should be the voltage of a CMOS circuit?
Shown here are the acceptable “high” and “low” states, for both input and output, of CMOS integrated circuits operating at 10 volts and 15 volts, respectively: The margins for acceptable “high” and “low” signals may be greater than what is shown in the previous illustrations.
What causes a signal to change from high to low?
With a single threshold point at which an input causes the output to switch between “high” and “low” states, the presence of significant noise will cause erratic changes in the output: The solution to this problem is a bit of positive feedback introduced into the amplifier circuit.
Is there a threshold voltage for logic gates?
That is, somewhere between the lowest “high” signal voltage level and the highest “low” signal voltage level guaranteed by the gate manufacturer, there is a threshold voltage at which the gate will actually switch its interpretation of a signal from “low” or “high” or vice versa.
