Can a tin be converted to a contour shapefile?
While it is possible to convert a TIN directly to a contour shapefile, better results are achieved by first converting the TIN to an elevation raster (grid) and then creating contours from the elevation raster. Contours produced directly from a TIN file tend to contain topological errors and have rough jagged edges.
When to use base contourfield in Esri TIN?
The Base Contourfield is used to optionally define a starting elevation for the contour lines. This allows you to limit the number of contours generated. For example, entering 200 will cause contour lines to be created at 200 ft, 202 ft, 204 ft, etc.
How is an elevation contour dataset different from a tin?
An elevation contour dataset represents lines of equal elevation. TIN surface with overlaid contours While both formats store elevation data, TINs are less widely supported in GIS and CAD packages. They are also more computationally intensive to render, and large datasets can take a long time to draw on screen.
What kind of tool is used to create contours?
The geoprocessing tools used to create contours from surfaces require the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension and/or the ArcGIS 3D Analyst extension. In certain instances, the last valid contour line might not be produced when creating contours using TIN surfaces. This is an algorithmic limitation common to computer contouring software.
How big of a file is a shapefile?
Shapefiles are more widely supported in other software applications. However, shapefiles have a 2 gigabyte file size limit. The Base Contourfield is used to optionally define a starting elevation for the contour lines.
How to merge multiple shapefiles into a single shapefile?
Question: I have multiple shapefiles of underwater forms (coral reef, outcrop, sandflat, etc) that I would like to combine into a single shapefile. This would make the data easier to manage and I would use a column in the attribute table to delineate each form, rather than have each be in a separate shapefile.
Is there a way to remove clipping from a shapefile?
The clipping didn’t work perfectly, and you’ll se some parts left in the ocean. You can remove this line by clicking “Toggle Editing” and then on the “Delete Part” button. Click on the line in the ocean until all parts are removed.
