Can DNS resolve to multiple IPs?
DNS can hold multiple records for the same domain name. DNS can return the list of IP addresses for the same domain name. When a web-browser requests a web-site, it will try these IP addresses one-by-one, until it gets a response. Web-application servers should be stateless to make the job of load-balancers easier.
Can one domain point to many IPs?
Yes, that is possible, and will need to be two A records. This is called Round-Robin DNS. Clients will semi-randomly use one of the two addresses. The certificate is not tied to the IP address, only to the domain name,so if it is installed on both servers, there should be no issues with SSL.
How do I remove DNS entry from DNS?
In the display pane, locate and select the resource records that you want to delete. Right-click the selected records, and then click Delete DNS resource record. The Delete DNS Resource Record dialog box opens. Verify that the correct DNS server is selected.
Can two domains have the same IP?
It is not possible to provide two domain names for the same Server IP address and get two different SSL certificates (one for each domain name). Also note that the use of Host Headers (which is how you can use a single IP for more than one SSL enabled domain) is not recommended for E-Commerce sites.
How do I remove preferred IP?
Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4). Click Advanced. In the IP Addresses section, click the desired IP address. Click Remove.
Is there a DNS host with multiple IPs?
I have a server that has two NICs on two separate subnets on separate vlans. The DNS server has an Host entry for each NIC. We’ll say it’s ServerA 192.168.0.10 and ServerA-Alt 192.168.1.10.
Can a DNS resolve to more than one IP?
A local DNS (usually a FQDN) for only private LAN IPs mapping to local computer names may be a simple 1-to-1 lookup. But even those tend to cache external public lookups with its own set of TTL values as to how often the cache gets updated.
Can a single a record have multiple IP’s?
Yes you can have multiple IP’s for the same A record. There’s a few problems with this if used for redundancy purposes… DNS servers and DNS resolvers randomly choose the order of the list of IPs – even though you might configure it a certain way on your DNS Server hosting the zone, resolvers will flip it.
Is there a way to ping both IPS?
You can ping either ip address from their corresponding network. The problem is that on the DNS server there is only one record for ServerA, but it is responding with both IP addresses using round robin. Due to needed configuration netmask ordering will not help.
