Can I use silver bearing solder for electronics?
Low melting point – flows smoothly at 430°F. Our silver bearing solder paste will join 22 different combinations of metals. Finished joint is bright silver, and won’t tarnish or blacken. It is great for electronics, wiring, connectors, and circuit boards.
Is silver Bearing solder the same as silver solder?
Silver Bearing Alloys, distinguished by their Silver Content (Ag) from 0.5 to 5.0%, offer high strength and excellent wettability. Silver Bearing Solders, not to be confused with silver solders (brazing alloys), offer certain physical properties unsurpassed by other lead-free solders.
What is silver bearing rosin core solder used for?
Designed for electrical applications, Electrical silver bearing rosin core solder is perfect for use on speaker wires, small motors and appliances and for general electronic repairs. The rosin-core base eliminates the need for flux. Melting temperature of 430°F.
Does silver solder go bad?
Solder does not expire, Flux oxidizes and reduces the fluxes ability to keep oxides\oxygen away from the metal. If you doing production runs you need to watch the shelf life of the solder\flux.
Does silver solder work on aluminum?
Aluminum needs heat to accept solder, usually to the tune of 300°C or more. Soldering aluminum is not like soldering copper; it’s not enough to just heat up and melt the solder. Even with the right flux and solder combination, you won’t achieve soldering if the aluminum isn’t hot enough to accept the solder alloy.
Is silver solder stronger than brazing?
Also remember that MAPP gas burns hotter than propane. Brazing rods look like straightened metal coat hangers, and like solder they become stronger as the percentage of silver they contain increases. The braze is what is melted by the torch to join two metals.
Is butane hot enough to silver solder?
Be sure to get some flux, and be sure it’s specifically for use with silver solder. An ordinary household propane or butane torch will work, but even better is one of the new torches that burn MAPP gas. They burn much hotter than ordinary torches, which makes silver soldering go faster and easier.
Does solder flux have a shelf life?
Flux cored solder wire has a limited shelf life determined by the alloy used in the wire. For alloys containing more than 70% lead, the shelf life is two years from date of manufacture. Other alloys have a shelf life of three years from date of manufacture.
What kind of solder do I need for my PCB?
Oh, and if it’s a home-made board, invest in some Spot-On solder resist (effectively liquid latex) and some fine paint brushes. Silver solder, from what i currently think, is great for audio electronic pcb soldering (resistors, capacitors, ic’s, ect…) yet takes extra patience and skill.
Which is the best solder for audio circuits?
Notice the heat and the time, as well as the fluidity. If it works for you, then using solder high in silver may be best for you. From what i understand, it makes a higher quality connection for projects like audio circuits.
What kind of solder do you use for SMD?
I prefer the solder with 2% silver – melting point is lower and joints are shinier. Agree re.flux – you can never have too much flux. Personally I use Sn/Ag/Cu solder in a 95.5/4.0/0.5 ratio. I use it for both through-hole and SMD work, and find it perfectly usable for either. My main reason for using it is it’s cheap at about £18 for 100g.
How big is Radio Shack silver bearing solder?
The closest thing I could find, in fact, ends up being available from Radio Shack: 0.015″ diameter 62/36/2 silver-bearing solder. What I don’t know, however, is how this compares to “normal” 63/37 solder.
