Can sessions be manipulated?
Session manipulation can occur when an application allows user-input in session keys. Since sessions are typically considered a source of truth (e.g. to check the logged-in user or to match CSRF tokens), allowing an attacker to manipulate the session may lead to unintended behavior.
Can session variables be changed?
Modifying Published Session Variables Session variables on the client are read-only. They cannot be modified. In order to change the value of a session variable, an Ajax Callback is required.
How do you change session variables?
To update any value stored in the session variable, start the session by calling session_start() function and then simply overwrite the vakue to update session variable. We just updated the value of userid in the session variable from 1 to 1111.
How is the session ID passed back to the server?
For subsequent requests, the PHPSESSID cookie is passed back to the server. When the server comes across the PHPSESSID cookie, it will try to initialize a session with that session id. It does so by loading the session file which was created earlier, during session initialization.
Why do web applications make use of Session Management?
Additionally, web applications will make use of sessions once the user has authenticated. This ensures the ability to identify the user on any subsequent requests as well as being able to apply security access controls, authorized access to the user private data, and to increase the usability of the application.
How to modify session data after page creation?
To modify session data from the server after page creation you would need to use AJAX or even JQuery to get the job done. Both of them can make a connection to the server to modify session data and get returned data back from that connection.
When a page is loaded, the session class will check to see if valid session cookie is sent by the user’s browser. If a sessions cookie does not exist (or if it doesn’t match one stored on the server or has expired) a new session will be created and saved.
