Can VLANs be on the same subnet?
If the addresses are all different it is possible to route traffic using a very large number of rules which don’t correspond to the actual subnet configuration and will confuse anyone who inherits this from you. However, it is completely permissible to use the same RFC1918 subnets on different physical networks.
How do I assign a subnet to a router?
Select BASIC > Setup > LAN Setup. The LAN Setup page displays for the default LAN subnet (LAN1). If you added another LAN subnet and want to change the IP address settings for that LAN subnet, click the tab for that LAN subnet. In the IP Address fields, enter the LAN IP address.
Can you have multiple VLANs on the same switch?
If it’s not possible to have the same subnet on different VLAN on the same switch how do I then share a printer between VLAN 100 and VLAN 200 as the printer vil have an IP of one of the subnet only? 02-02-2015 06:42 AM 02-02-2015 06:42 AM We could perhaps provide better answers if we knew more about your network and how it is set up.
Can You Ping multiple VLANs within the same subnet?
Cant ping Vlan20’s ip. Cant ping 10a and 10b as well (coz they are in different Vlan) Now move ports 10 and 11 to vlan 30. 10a can ping 10b. Cant ping Vlan30’s ip. Cant ping 20a and 20b as well (coz they are in different Vlan) 11-14-2014 01:19 AM 11-14-2014 01:19 AM
How are two IP addresses in the same subnet?
It means when two IP addresses have a subnet mask such that the addresses share the same network address and broadcast address. For example: 192.168.0.1/24 and 192.168.0.254/24 are in the same subnet because of the /24 subnet mask
If you have a requirement to share the printer then there is a requirement to route between VLAN/subnets. But if there is also a requirement that you can not route between subnets then this prevents sharing the printer. Perhaps one solution to think about would be to establish another VLAN.
