Can we have multiple classes in same Python file?
A module is a distinct thing that may have one or two dozen closely-related classes. Modules may as well contain functions along with classes. In Python there is rule of one module=one file. So depending on the scenario and convenience one can have one or more classes per file in Python.
Can you have multiple classes in the same file?
In Java for instance, you cannot create multiple top level classes per file, they have to be in separate files where the classname and filename are the same.
Should each class be in its own file?
No. Typical Python style is to put related classes in the same module. It may be that a class ends up in a module of its own (especially if it’s a large class), but it should not be a goal in its own right.
How do you use multiple classes in Python?
Think it this way. In java what you write is a Class where in the case of Python, you write a module instead of a class. So a module can contain several classes. Whenever you want to use a particular class, import the respective module first and then call the class to make objects.
How many classes we can define in one program?
Inside a program, you can mention any number of classes, since there is no restriction, but the only thing that should be remembered is that all their names should be different.
How many classes can be defined in single Python file?
Python and Java – Comparisons and Contrasts
| Concept/feature | Python |
|---|---|
| files and classes | A Python source file can contain definitions of any number of classes (including zero) |
| Where does execution start? | Executes the code in order from beginning to end of the file. main() is optional, and has no special meaning in Python. |
Can a namespace hold more than one class?
Two classes with the same name can be created inside 2 different namespaces in a single program. Inside a namespace, no two classes can have the same name.
Are there classes in different files in Python?
As Python is notan OO language only, it does not make sense do have a rule that says, one file should only contain one class. One file (module) should contain classes / functions that belong together, i.e. provide similar functionality or depend on each other. Of course you should not exaggerate this.
Is it OK to have multiple classes in the same file in Java?
To the experienced Python practitioner, this question might seem silly, but I really want an answer to it so I can go further with the language: In Java and PHP ( although not strictly required ), you are expected to write each class on its own file, with file’s name is that of the class as a best practice.
Can a module contain more than one class?
A module can consist of multiple classes or functions. As Python is not an OO language only, it does not make sense do have a rule that says, one file should only contain one class. One file (module) should contain classes / functions that belong together, i.e. provide similar functionality or depend on each other.
Can a class be defined in multiple files?
No, you can define multiple classes (and functions, etc.) in a single file. A file is also called a module. To use the classes/functions defined in the module/file, you will need to import the module/file. Thanks for contributing an answer to Stack Overflow!
