Can you change wheels on a bench grinder?
Locate the center arbor nut, and unscrew the nut with a wrench, holding the wheel in one hand so it doesn’t rotate. Since the grinding wheel rotates toward you, the right-side wheel nut is threaded as you’d typically expect and unscrews by turning the nut toward the front of the grinder.
Can you put a wire wheel on a bench grinder?
If your bench grinder has two grinding wheels, replace one with a wire wheel. Buy only high-quality, name brand wire wheels. Cheap ones look just about the same, but the wire bristles will come flying out at high rpms much more easily. Like sandpaper, the wire wheels come in coarse, medium and fine varities.

- With gloves on, grab the wheel and turn it counterclockwise until you feel the flange release.

They do cost more in terms of dollars, but are worth far more in terms of value/bang for the buck. You can use your blue wheels till they wear out, or sell them and buy the CBN wheels. If you get the CBN wheels, you never need to worry about balancing them, cleaning them, or truing them up.

Using the palm of your hand, slide the disc in the direction opposite to the arrow on the disc. This should loosen the nut enough to remove it with your fingers. If that doesn’t work, you can use pliers to break the old disc into pieces, giving you better access to the drive bolt and retaining nut.
